How To Clean Your Hair Brush

Having a clean hair brush can be more important than we have been thinking. How often do you clean your hair brush?

For me, deep cleaning my hair brush is definitely something that gets looked past. Here, I will go over the benefits of brushing your hair, effective ways to deep clean your hairbrush, and the importance of having a clean brush.

What are the benefits to brushing your hair?

  • Brushing your hair gives a natural shine – brushing your hair distributes your natural hair oil over each strand.
  • Brush can stimulate your scalp – “Brush bristles work to stimulate your capillaries, thereby increasing blood circulation to your scalp and bringing oxygen and nutrients to the hair stem.”
  • Brushing helps remove knots and tangles – Everyone gets knots and tangles in their hair and brushing is the best way to get rid of them.

How to clean your hair brush

  1. Remove all hair

Use a comb or bush cleaner to remove all hair form your brush. Don’t forget to get any hair stuck in between the bristles

2. Wash your hairbrush

Wet your hairbrush with lukewarm water. This is to remove any remaining product from the bristles. Apply soap or shampoo to your hairbrush. Lather the soap or shampoo by brushing in one direction, as if you were pulling hair out.

3. Rinse

After your brush has been washed, it’s time to rinse. Rinse your brush with a lot of water. You can do this by soaking your hairbrush in water for  minutes (this might need to be repeated a couple of times), or you can use a spray bottle to rinse your hairbrush out.

4.Dry

Either set your brush out to dry, or use a hairdryer to dry your hairbrush faster.

Benefits of having a clean hairbrush

You may not use a hairbrush everyday, but I’m sure most people have used a hairbrush at least once in their lives. Whether you use your hairbrush twice a year or twice a day, brushes accumulate hair, product, dust mites, dead skin cells, and natural oils form your hair. “That buildup can turn your hairbrush into a breeding ground for bacteria and yeast, and that is no good! So, it’s a hygiene issue!”

Just reading this makes me want to wash my brush after every use!

“In addition to this, omitting a proper washing routine can reduce the life of our brushes, as well as their effectiveness. And, without realizing it, you will be depositing dirt or product buildup on your hair, making it greasy and dull. So, if you want to keep your hair looking fabulous, remember to have your hairbrush clean!”

Enjoy your clean brush!
