Ever Wondered How To Keep New Year’s Resolutions?

2021 starts in 5 days! 5 days to come up with goals for the new year. Goals are amazing to have, but how do you keep those resolutions?

Every year, I end up making a hug list of New Year’s Resolutions. Those resolutions only end up lasting for about a week. If anyone else has had this happen to them, it’s really frustrating. So, how do you keep your resolutions for longer than a week?

There are so many different things you can do to help keep your New Year’s Resolutions, but I have found 10 ways to keep your resolutions on gaiam.com.

1. Be Realistic

Having realistic goals is extremely important. If your goal is unattainable, that is the surest way of only lasting a week in your resolution. Make sure your goal is achievable.

2. Plan Ahead

Don’t plan your goals on New Year’s Eve. Start planning your resolutions now, and start implementing your plan now.

3. Outline Your Plan

Plan out your goals. Figure out what you can do each week or each month. Plan ideas, and little goals along the way. Plan out the temptations you will have and how to overcome those temptations.

4. Make a Pros and Cons list

Making a pros and cons list can be a very positive thing when having the right mindset. While going throughout your resolution, make a pros and cons list to see where you are. Continue doing this every month or so, to see your growth and progress. Seeing your progress while accomplishing your goal can help motivate you to keep going.

5. Talk about it

Telling people about your resolution can help them be accountable of yourself. Don’t keep your goals a secret, let other people help you.

6. Reward Yourself

Keep in mind, this does not mean to eat an entire box of doughnuts by yourself if your resolution is to eat healthier. Do something small, but effective. Do something that doesn’t contradict your resolution, but still something you enjoy.

7. Track Your Progress

Don’t always focus on your end goal. Focus on the little accomplishments and little goals you make as well.

8. Don’t Beat Yourself up

Accomplishing goals can be difficult. Mentally, physically, emotionally, and even spiritually. Give yourself time.

9. Stick To it

It takes 21 days to develop a habit. It take 6 months for that habit to become part of your personality. This goal will not be accomplished over night. It will take time. Be patient.

10. Keep Trying

If you fall short one day, do better the next day. Don’t be afraid to restart. New Year’s Resolutions aren’t just one and done goals. If you fail, keep going.
