It is the end of the year. So many traditions and fun things happening, and so many people look forward to it. What is the true meaning of Christmas? What is the reason for the season?

Christmas is this Saturday, which means presents are bought and wrapped, treats are being prepared, and the kids are excited to see what Santa brings them. This is such a beautiful and magical time of year, but there is so much more to Christmas than presents candy, and snow.

Why do we celebrate Christmas?

Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, born in a stable to the virgin Mary and Joseph. We celebrate Christmas by giving gifts, serving people, spending time with family, hanging up decorations, preparing candy, opening presents, and much more. An important way for us to celebrate Christmas is to remember Jesus Christ. A way we can remember Him is to follow His example by serving people, loving people, and being kind. A great way to serve and help those in need is by participating and donating to the Giving Machines.

The Giving Machines are put on by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and they can be found in 10 different places in the United States. These 10 locations are:

  • Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Nashville, Tennessee
  • Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Orem, Utah
  • Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Oakland, California
  • Gilbert, Arizona
  • Denver, Colorado
  • Kansas City, Missouri
  • New York City, New York

How Can The Giving Machines Help?

“The Giving Machines provide service with a twist — rather than producing a product following a purchase, the vending-type machines allow an individual to make charitable donations.

Each machine features “items” available through global and local charities, including food, clean water, health-care services, shelter, bedding, skills training and educational supplies. The initiative’s ever-popular agricultural offerings — donations of chickens, goats, pigs and beehives — are also available.

Global charities include CARE, Church World Service, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNICEF and WaterAid. More than 40 local charity partners are also participating.”

Giving Machines are an amazing way for anyone to help people from all over the world. Want to know the best part? You don’t have to go to a Giving Machine to help! You can donate online as well. “You can donate online to the organizations participating in the Giving Machines on LightTheWorld.org Under each city in the “Local charity partners” section of this page, click on the charity’s name to visit their website and donate in support of Light the World online.”

“One hundred percent of your donation will be used for the purchased item, similar items, or services of greater need as determined by the applicable charitable organization. To ensure this, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints generously covers all credit card transaction fees.”

Enjoy the Christmas Season!
