Cleaning Tips For Allergy Sufferers

Spring is coming, and allergies are going to get worse. What can you do to prepare for allergy season?

Even though we are in the middle of February, the weather is warming up, and spring is right around the corner. The best time, because of the warmer weather, but also the worst time for those who suffer with allergies. For me, I feel like my allergies get worse every year, so I have found a list of things to help me clean my home and be prepared for the allergy season to come.

Cleaning Tips

  • Stick to a cleaning schedule- Surprisingly, cleaning may make your allergies worse, especially that first big clean. Cleaning lifts dust and dirt particles into the air, which is what makes us sneeze. Sticking to a cleaning schedule will help keep your home clean, but will help reduce the amount of dust particles in your home. Cleaning on a regular basis will reduce your allergies.
  • Vacuum at least twice a week- If you aren’t able to vacuum every day, vacuum a couple times a week. When vacuuming, make sure that everything is vacuumed. Like I mentioned, the more frequently you vacuum, the better your allergies will be.
  • Remove unneeded clutter- When cleaning dust particles are flying around in the air. After a little bit, those dust particles have to land somewhere. The more clutter in places, the more dusting that is going to need to be done.
  • Wash bed sheets weekly- There are so many dirt and dust particles that get trapped in bed sheets. When your allergies are bad, don’t forget to wash your bed sheets.
  • Wash curtains regularly- When cleaning, I always forget about washing the curtains around the house. Just like bed sheets, curtains collect a lot of dust particles and dirt particles.
  • Keep your bathrooms clean- A big problem for those with allergies is mold. Keeping your bathrooms cleaned and free of mold will help reduce the severity of allergies.
  • Invest in an air purifier- A great way to reduce allergens is to get an air purifier and change the filter regularly.
  • Keep outside, outside- Try to reduce the amount of times your door is open, and try to avoid wearing shoes in your home.

Another way to help reduce allergies, is to use hypoallergenic cleaning products. Those may consist of Mrs. Meyer’s, Seventh Generation, Clorox, Grove CO, ECOS, Purex, and more.
