Cleaning equipment is essential for our homes and businesses. For CBM Pros, our cleaning equipment is very important to us. We do our best to keep our equipment clean and ready to use, because cleaning is what we do best. How do you maintain your cleaning equipment and why is it important?

Cleaning equipment

In this list of cleaning equipment I have found a few tools used by CBM Pros, and those you may use in your own home. All of these pieces are important to creating a clean home and environment, but it is important to keep these tools maintained in order for them to continue cleaning and to last longer.

Vacuum Cleaner

How is it used?

A vacuum cleaner is pretty common household tool. As most of us know, a vacuum cleaner is what picks up crumbs, dust mites, etc. from off of the floors. The brushes are able to clean in between the carpet fibers and leave the carpet clean and crumb-free.

How do you maintain it?

-Empty the dirt bags. Everything that is picked up by the vacuum is now in the dirt bag. This needs to be cleaned regularly to keep the vacuum working and picking up crumbs from the carpet. If the dirt bag is full, there won’t be enough room for the vacuum to pick up stuff from the carpet.

-Remove all of the dust and dirt. Your vacuum picks up a lot of dust and dirt. Sometimes that dust and dirt can get caught between the rollers and throughout the vacuum. Every month it’s good to take apart your vacuum and remove the dust and dirt. This includes the filters. Before dirt goes into the dirt bag, it goes through the filters. Clean the filters so that airflow will continue throughout the vacuum. This will help everything to continue functioning properly.

-Clean the vacuum hose and brush. Like I mentioned, the vacuum picks up a lot of dirt. This includes dust bunnies, and maybe some hairballs, as gross as it may be. It’s very important to keep the vacuum hose and the brush clean so the vacuum can continue to pick up debris.

Mop and Bucket

How is it used?

This is a pretty common household item, but a mop is used clean hardwood or tile floors. Keeping a mop clean is important because there is a chance of the mop getting moldy.

How do you maintain it?

-Rinse and ring out. After each use of you mop, rinse out the mop and bucket to ensure there is no more soap or chemical. Then ring out the mop. Not ringing out the mop can result in the mop growing mold, which will make your mop useless after that point.

– Allow your mop and bucket to completely dry. Once your mop has been rung out, hang it somewhere where it can dry completely, without touching anything. This will also decrease the chance of mold growing on the mop, and anywhere else like in the bucket.

-Replace. Your mop and bucket are not going to last forever, they are eventually going to get old. After every 3-4 months get a new mop head and bucket to ensure you floors are getting the cleanest they can.

Squeegee

How is it used?

A squeegee is a great tool for window cleaning. It’s also great for cleaning showers. My aunt uses a squeegee to clean her shower after every shower. She loves it, and it makes her shower windows so clean.

How do you maintain it?

– Use both sides. The rubber on the squeegee can be flipped so both sides can be used instead of just one. This will decrease the chance of wear and tear on just one side.

-Hang to dry. After using the squeegee make sure it has a place to dry completely. Similar to the mop, the squeegee needs to completely dry to reduce the risk of mold growing.

-Replace. After a few months, the wear and tear of your squeegee can become unbearable, to the point where the squeegee isn’t properly cleaning. This could be because of the rubber. Replace the rubber every few months.

Toilet bowl scrub brush/ plunger

How is it used?

These two simple tools, are effective in helping with the slightest bathroom inconveniences by unclogging toilets and cleaning those stubborn toilet stains.

How do you maintain them?

The toilet brush is similar to a floor mop.

-Rinse and ring out.

-Hang to dry.

-Replace.

These maintaining techniques will reduce mold and help the brush to last longer.

The best way to maintain a toilet plunger is to clean it. As gross as it is, it needs to be done. A suggestion that I found was to put a little bit of bleach in your toilet and move the plunger around in the bleach, then leave it to dry completely.
