Things To Do While Your Kids Are In School

School is back in session, which means that parents have most of the day without their kids. What are some things parents can do while their kids are in school?

While your kids are in school, you have most of the day alone. Here is a list of things you can do that are proactive, relaxing, etc.

  1. Go get lunch or breakfast alone – As weird as that may seem, spending some time to yourself is really nice.
  2. Go to the gym– Having that time to focus on you mentally, physically, and emotionally is necessary.
  3. Go grocery shopping– I only have 1 toddler and it can be hard to go grocery shopping with just him, I can’t imagine go with multiple little kids right now. Take advantage and go alone, or at least with a few less kids.
  4. Catch up with friends– Kids take up a big portion of our lives. Take the time to see old friends.
  5. You and your spouse/partner go to lunch– Take that opportunity to have a small date while your kids are gone.
  6. Apply for a part-time job– It might be nice to earn a little extra money while your kids are gone.
  7. Volunteer more– Take that time to help someone else in need. You may even make more friends and find some new hobbies while volunteering.
  8. Help out at school– A great way to volunteer is to help out at your kids schools. While I was in school, it was always fun to see my parents volunteering and helping with things.
  9. Get major things done– Whether that is scrubbing the kitchen/bathrooms down, rearranging your home, whatever. This is a great time to get stuff done while your kids are gone.
  10. Organize– It’s always nice having something organized without having it messed up. Take the time to organize while knowing it will stay organized for a couple of hours.
  11. Meal prep– One of the worst questions is being asked what’s for dinner, and not having an answer to give. Meal prep and prepare for that question before your kids have the chance to ask it.
  12. Take a nap– Taking care of kids is hard and exhausting. Take a nap and relax for a little bit.

Hopefully this list helps while your kids are gone!
